Taiwan: Alishan and the Lovers Bridge
Alishan (阿里山) , one of the most visited national parks in Taiwan, is located in Chiayi County, at the southern part of Taiwan. One the way to Alishan, one will pass by the Lovers Bridge ( 天長地久橋). This is a suspension bridge over a stream consisting of two parts, the 天長橋 and the 地久橋.
The Lovers Bridge is built over the Bazhang river in 1937. Due to landslides in the Alishan area, the waters of the river are tainted slightly yellow, which is not really visible in the photos above.
A temple at the foot of the Alishan mountains. On the day I visited, the temple was holding some kind of procession, where rows of people were dressed up in costumes and marching around the streets. Towards the end of the event, there was this five minute window period where firecrackers were lit continuously. Temple helpers then handed out sweets which they said were blessed, which supposedly protects the person who eats the sweets?
