This site has been using the same theme since it’s inception, thus partially out of boredom and a desire to refresh and experiment, I began searching for something new. Today, on the 23rd day of August 2019, the theme has switched to the new default theme which comes with WordPress 5.0
Theme: Twenty Nineteen
Twenty Nineteen. Short and sweet. WordPress themes are usually named as the years of their introduction. We see twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen but twenty eighteen is strangely missing.
Simple and elegant
Twenty Nineteen theme offers a really clean and minimalist look, with much emphasis on the featured images. They now show up prominently on the top of each posts, allowing for the site to switch over to a more photo centric style.
All posts are now in excerpt mode to avoid cluttering up the homepage. The color scheme remains unchanged from the default setting of blue, which also happens to be one of my favorite colors. Gender stereotypes aside, the color blue is associated with sentimentality, inflexibility, a lack of emotion and spending much time thinking. Of course, confirmation bias is at play and I happen to positively identify with the above traits out of all the long list floating about in various websites.
Galleries
Following the demise of Flickr’s free service, galleries will no longer be updated. The old galleries run on a useful plugin which automatically converts a Flickr album to neatly arranged thumbnails fuss free. Lightbox function is also build in.
Good things come to an end and it is with great regret that I bid farewell to the old Flickr.
Removed Mobile Theme
Under the old design, a mobile theme (WPTouch) was in effect. This plugin redirected mobile users to a cut down mobile friendly version of the site and presented each post with featured thumbnails and banner. The twenty nineteen theme is rather mobile friendly, as such, WPTouch is now removed from the site.
Previously, it was detected that Google had issues indexing the site, defaulting to mobile first, which was rather ugly for a non mobile user (in my opinion). Perhaps, this move will fix the issue, once the google bot feels free enough to return for a re-indexing.
Upcoming Movies Watchlist
Finally an update to 1986’s Top Gun. The aerodynamics professor introduced this series to the class while showing a short clip from the movie. The film garnered positive attention towards a career as a pilot and the new Top Gun Maverick trailer seems to follow on with the trend.
Amalgamation of science fiction and teenage romance? Recently Disney have been gearing up for their own video on demand service to compete with Amazon and Netflix. I expect to see more Netflix originals appearing as they focus on their remaining ammunition in this fight
Hong Kong movies are one of my favourite go to movies, especially their action and thriller genres. The script is usually outstanding and the cinematics and action scenes pleasant to watch.
